Toilet roll Inspiration #2 - Spy Gadgets 🧻🧻🧻

Now that you’ve used all that toilet paper … 🤔 … whatever you do, don’t throw out the toilet rolls! If you still have toilet paper rolls left over from the Superhero Cuff activity then here’s another way to put them to good creative use to inspire imaginations and stories! Kids absolutely love this activity in my workshops and spend ages engaged with it. Hopefully you can sneak off and grab a cuppa whilst their distracted 🤞😄

Toilet roll Inspiration #2 📟 SPY GADGETS 📟

What you’ll need:

  • Toilet rolls - at least one per child but the more the better!

  • Literally any craft bits and pieces you have e.g. paddle pop sticks, coloured or shiny paper, glitter, stickers, fuzzy balls, goggly eyes, pipe cleaners, literally anything.

  • And of course glue and / or sticky tape.

1. Get kids inspired: Again, you want to get kids in a spy frame of mind before getting them to invent weird and wonderful spy gadgets! My kids (aged 5 & 8) love playing spy role play games with walkie talkies but you could get them inspired by reading a spy book (e.g. Zak Power) or watching Spy Kids, the movie. You can also google spy gadgets, look at the images together and discuss them. I’ll also be doing a post on spy activities so look out for that!

2. Get making: Once their imaginations have started going, kids can draw / design their gadgets first on a piece of paper, or you can go straight to laying out the toilet rolls and craft stuff and get making! Some ideas for gadgets are a spy watch, binoculars, stun ray, or all of these in one! You name it, I’ve seen kids make it from toilet rolls!

3. You can take this a step further by: getting them to create their own secret spy name and identity and invent a secret mission - look out for a post on spy activities yet to come!

We’d absolutely love to see your creations so, once you’re done, share them on Instagram and tag @storysquad_au. Otherwise send them to info@storysquad.com.au for a chance to be featured on our Instagram feed to help inspire others!
